In an effort to reduce infant injuries and fatities in auto accidents due to improperly installed car seats, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, has devised a new, easy to use rating system for car seats.  The rating will let parents know which car seat is the easiet to work with and install.  NHTSA determined that many times child injuries are due to improperly installed car seats, and ease of use often determines the quality of the installation.

NHTSA reviewed 78 child safety seats and rated several of their features with a 1 – 5 star rating, with a 5-star meaning an excellent rating.  If parents are in the market for a new child safety seat, they can go to the NHTSA website and search by type of seat they are looking for to determine the highest rated seats available.

As new seats come on the market, they will be rated as well, and officials at NHTSA hope that manufacturers’ future designs will include features that will gain them the highest rating.
