Over the weekend a 6-year-old boy was killed when the miniature train he was on derailed. It’s being reported that a South Carolina state amusement ride inspector falsified a safety report and never tested the children’s train ride, due to a dead battery. Whether or not that was the train, which crashed, is unknown at this time.
The Cleveland Park accident is tragic. While independently tracking amusement ride accidents, I can say that not all amusement ride inspectors do such half-hazard work.
Rightfully so, now more than ever, does the public have a right to question the safety of any amusement ride in South Carolina. It also begs the obvious question, what else has this agency overlooked?
