A proposed class action settlement would pay each member of the class less than 4 cents. The suit is against the Bayer company, which has agreed with plaintffs’ attorneys on a $4.75 million amount. Al though the plaintffs will only get 4 cents, the attorneys are asking for 30% of the total settlement amount. That works out to 1.42 million, or just over $600/hour. The remainder of the money will not even be paid to the plaintiffs; rather, it will be given to charity. Experts say that the value of the suit is actually in letting the defendant corporation know that its illegal actions will not go unnoticed and it will be penalized. Hopefully, the next time the penalty is more than $.04 a person.
