Allstate has been named the worst insurance company in the United States mostly because of their strategy of “Deny, Delay, Defend” when dealing with claims from both their insureds and third parties who have been injured by their insureds. Allstate makes low offers and then undertakes hardball litigation when dealing with claims in hopes that the claimants will just give up and that Allstate would be left with more profit. Allstate also blatantly lies to its policyholders:

Former Allstate adjusters say they were rewarded for keeping claims payments low, even if they had to deceive their customers. Adjusters who tried to deny fire claims by blaming arson were rewarded with portable fridges, according to former Allstate adjuster Jo Ann Katzman. “We were told to lie by our supervisors. It’s tough to look at people and know you’re lying.”

In addition, in Florida, Allstate has gotten in some hot water because of what appears to be tying homeowners insurance to auto policies. This behavior is illegal in our state.

The complete list of the top 10 worst insurance companies is:
1. Allstate
2. Unum
3. AIG
4. State Farm
5. Conseco
6. WellPoint
7. Farmers
8. UnitedHealth
9. Torchmark
