An 82-yer-old Canadian man has been arrested for a hit and run accident thanks to a man travelling on a moped who witnessed the accident. The Canadain suspect was driving near Arcadia when he rammed his vehicle into a golf cart driven by a 77 year-old man. According to the witness, the driver got out of his car, looked at the situation, then got back into his vehicle and drove on down the road. Emergency personnel reported that the driver of the golf cart died from the injuries sustained in the accident.
The man on the moped tailed the hit and run driver for about 15 miles on Hwy 17 until the suspect stopped in Punta Gorda, where he asked someone to call 911. Charlotte County deputies arrested the Canadian driver at his home.
