An Orlando pedestrian is dead following an accident on January 7, according to the Miami Herald.

The teenage victim was with two other people at the time. He stumbled and fell while crossing for unknown reasons. The driver of the vehicle, was unable to swerve in time and ran over the pedestrian. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.

Orlando is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States for pedestrian accidents. The problem is also huge across the country. Most of the auto accidents involving pedestrians also involve a male pedestrian. For example, there were 59,000 pedestrian accidents in the United States in 2009. 69% of those killed in these accidents were male, and 75% of the accidents occurred in urban areas. 70% of them occur at night.

Some tips to keep safe: If you are walking near roadways face traffic as you walk, be sure to always yield to traffic and when you can be sure to cross at crosswalks.
