Some BMW owners are finding that they are not getting as much safety for their money as they had originally thought. The NHTSA is investigating a faulty Occupant Classification System (OCS). The OCS is supposed to recognize whether or not a seat has a passenger in it. The malfunctioning OCS seems to be located in the front passenger seat, and a faulty seat mat could be to blame. If an auto collision occurs, and the OCS is not working, the airbag will not deploy, resulting in an increased risk of injury to the passenger. The lack of a properly working airbag in an auto accident could result in serious injury or death– a result that could be avoided in the car manufacterer had merely done their jobs properly.
