Sadly another lawsuit has been filed here in Central Florida related to another case of alleged clergy molestation or abuse

The mother of a Lake County boy who was sexually abused by his pastor has sued the clergyman, two area churches and two Baptist groups, maintaining they should have protected her son.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory damages for the boy’s continuing psychotherapy from the Rev. Douglas W. Myers, his defunct Triangle Community Church in Eustis, Bay Street Baptist Church in Eustis, the Lake County Baptist Association and the Jacksonville-based Florida Baptist Convention

.

Myers had already pleaded guilty in criminal proceedings related to the abuse of the 13 year old male victim. The perpetrator earned the trust of the mother and she allowed him to take her son on outings to Disney and other places providing the setting for the abuse. Since the pastor and the church were part of a church planting mission, the allegation is that the parent church group should have better investigated and or supervised this man before allowing him to assume such a position of trust while under the cloak of their organizations. Unfortunately, sometimes only a civil lawsuit and monetary damages will make organizations take reasonable care to protect children threatened by their conduct and the conduct of people that they put into power or authority.
