Today the FDA re-issued a recall of Complete MoisturePlus Multpurpose Contact Lens Solution. The original recall was announced in May 2007, but since occurences of the rare eye infection continue to be reported the FDA is concerned that consumers are not aware of the recall and are still using the solution. The FDA requests that contact lens wearers stop using Complete MoisturePlus Multipurpose Contact Lens Solution immediately and throw out any open or new bottles.

The eye infection was traced to a parasite in the defective product manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics. It attacks normally healthy eyes of contact wearers and shows up as any other eye resulting from contacts, such as redness, pain, the feeling that there is something in the eye, etc. However, the infection is serious and may result in loss of sight and require replacement of the cornea.

Again, consumers are asked to stop using Complete MoisturePlus Multipurpose Contact Lens Solution immediately and to contact their physician to get an appropriate replacement product.
