The salmonella contamination that was reported last week by the FDA has now been found in a package of Kellogg’s brand Austin Quality Foods Toasty Crackers with Peanut Butter.
Peanut paste and peanut butter is suspected to be the source of a salmonella outbreak that is responsible for 6 deaths, hospitalization of at least 90, and another 470 related illnesses.
While federal officials believe most peanut butter sold in jars at grocery stores is safe, the FDA is recommending that consumers refrain from eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and now apparently peanut butter crackers. You can find a complete list of the brands on the FDA’s website.
This current outbreak is just one of a long list of salmonella food contaminations reports from the FDA and CDC in the past 12 months. Previously, there was concerns of contamination in pot pies, pet food, spinach, and cantalopes, just to name a few.
