The Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued an immediate, voluntary recall of booster chairs manufactured by Bumbo International and sold at Target, Walmart, Sears, Toys R Us, Babies R Us and other retailers. The Bumbo “Baby Sitter” booster seat is a foam seat with holes for the legs and a seatback. It comes in yellow, bue, purple, pink, aqua, and lime green. Although the seat has a warning label against using it on a raised surface, consumers have reported 28 incidents of chlldren toppling off a table. Three of the falls resulted in the child receiving a skull fracture.
Bumbo has voluntarily stopped selling the booster seats until they can change the packaging to ensure that consumers are aware of the dangers of placing the child in the seat on a raised surface. Consumers can contact Bumbo at 877-932-8262 for new warning labels to be placed on the seat, but are warned by the CPSC that a child should never be placed in the seat on a table, counter, chair or any other surface above ground level.
