Well the Federal Government finally seems to be starting to do something about the extensive malpractice occurring in our hospitals. Up until now, if malpractice was committed on a patient at a hospital the hospital would actually profit from the malpractice by billing for and getting paid from Medicare for the cost of the care stemming from the malpractice that they caused. Now Medicare will no longer pay for the cost of infections, foreign objects left in patients during surgery, falls, and other preventable incidents of medical malpractice. Now that hospitals no longer have a profit motive to commit malpractice hopefully they will increase the quality of care provided to patients. Remember, the medical malpractice system we have is not perfect but it is the only protection that the common man has against the corporate health care industry that now dominates the provision of medical care in our country.
