Winn-Dixie and Publix supermarkets in Florida have pulled store brand ground beef from their shelves after a recall announcement due to possible E.coli contamination. South Florida’s supermarkets announced they had received some of the 60,000 pounds of ground chuck recalled by National Beef Co. after inspectors found bacteria at a plan in Ohio.

Publix said all of its recalled beef was sold in seventeen northern Florida counties and none in South Florida. Winn-Dixie gave no information about which stores received the contaminated beef.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has received no reports of illnesses, said the Orlando Sentinel. This is the second meat recall in a week, with the last week’s recall of 36 million ground turkey that had been reportedly contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

Winn-Dixie said recalled beef packages were ground chuck with the UPC code of 20170000000, family packs with the code 29127700000, patties with the code 20170100000, and patties family pack with the code 29128200000. Publix said the beef was used in a variety of processed foods made at the stores, including patties, meatballs, meatloaf, chili and stuffed peppers.

The E. coli strain of bacteria can be fatal but can be killed by cooking meat to an internal temperature of 160 degrees as measured by a meat thermometer.

An Orlando injury lawyer can provide guidance if you have suffered due to a salmonella, E.coli or other food poisoning outbreak.
