According to orlandosentinel.com, a two and one half year old toddler drowned in a family pool in Clermont while visiting the owners of the pool from out of state. The homeowner found the toddler unresponsive and performed CPR, but to no avail. The toddler was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Homeowners with swimming pools must take special precautions to prevent similar injuries or deaths. Any type of event like the unfortunate one described above can be prevented and must be prevented. When young children are at a home with a swimming pool, whether residences of the home, friends of residences of the home, or house guests of any kind, it should be quite apparent that the swimming pool poses potential danger. Proper precautions and supervision are absolutely necessary to prevent injury or death because young children are not capable to protecting themselves. When injury or death occurs because the homeowner failed to take necessary precautions, the homeowner can be liable for all resulting injuries or deaths.

When you take your children to a home with a pool, do a search of the premises to see if there is any possible way a child could fall in unsupervised. Look to see if the pool is covered or if it is sufficiently enclosed to keep children out. These are only two suggestions of many that may be necessary to keep your children safe.

The bottom line is to remain cognizant of the potential dangers of swimming pools and simply do what any other person would do to protect the safety of children.
