A 4-year-old child suffered injuries after a vicious dog attack at a McDonalds in Madeira Beach, according to sources. The child was with her grandparents when the dog bit her in the lip. The girl’s grandfather, 48-year-old Shawn Riley, then proceeded to stab the dog in the neck twice.

According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s reports, the child approached the dog, described as a 9-year-old golden retriever. The girl was rushed to the hospital and may require reconstructive surgery. The dog was treated on the scene by Madeira Beach Fire Fighters. The incident is still under investigation.

“He took her lip from here to here, almost to the nostril, off. We had to put it in a bag of ice,” Riley said. “The dog sat down, went ‘smack smack,’ spit the meat out…if I’d had a gun, I would have shot it.”
