Are Red Light Cameras a Violation of Civil Rights?

Comments Off

According to The Florida Civil Rights Association and the National Motorist Association they are. The Orlando Sentinel is reporting these groups have joined efforts in fighting red light cameras in Florida.

The City of Orlando has red light cameras at several high-accident intersections and began issuing tickets back in last September. Orange County has installed red light cameras but Mayor Crotty opposed citing violators until there is a ruling from the Florida Legislature.

These associations, however, suggest these cameras may be a violation of your civil rights, that they are only installed as a cash cow and that they cause more accidents than the without them. They are urging Governor Charlie Crist and the Florida legislature to ban them altogether.
