For the 2013 season we independently obtained the following information via consumer and employee feedback for theme parks in the Orlando, Florida area:
- Universal Studios Orlando, Orlando, Florida, USA, 50 Significant Injuries – The Simpson’s ride’s 10 back and 9 neck related injuries appeared to be the result of rough jerky motions made by this motion simulator type ride.
- Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, Orlando, Florida, USA, 69 Significant Injuries – 26 injuries on Dragon’s Challenge, which included riders with issues walking after riding.
- SeaWorld Orlando, Orlando, Florida, USA, 34 Significant Injuries– 12 injuries on the Manta roller coaster, including riders having issues breathing after getting off of the ride. Those riders attributed this to an uncomfortable restraint system.
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA, 41 Significant Injuries – 21 injuries on Dinosaur included 13 back and 8 neck related injuries. One cast member who assisted us during the 2013 season indicated our numbers were too low!
- Disney’s Epcot, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA, 24 Significant Injuries – 19 injuries on Mission Space. Cast members saying that at times they observe riders who come off the ride so disoriented that they appear drunk or half asleep.
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA, 42 Significant Injuries – 22 injuries reported on Star Tours, which isn’t surprising, being all the sudden movements of this motion simulator ride.
- Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA, 17 Significant Injuries – 8 trip and fall related injuries reported on this ride. One of the causes seems to be ride operators getting riders on and off the ride so fast that riders fail to see where they are stepping. As of this report, we are already up to 17 trip and fall reports for the 2014 season.
