MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) recently announced that alcohol-related traffic deaths are at an all time high since 1992 and has called upon Congress to hold immediate hearings to address solutions. According to NHTSA, alcohol-related traffic fatalities exceeded 17,900 for the year 2006, the highest number in 15 years.
We all have known people who have lost a loved one in a car crash caused by a driver who was legally drunk. Our firm has handled hundreds of cases where alcohol was the cause of a motor vehicle crash that resulted in death or serious injury to innocent victims. MADD believes that the reason people continue to drive drunk, despite the devastating effect it has on families, is because they can. There are 1.4 million drunk driving arrests in this country every year and we must make sure these individuals never drive drunk again. Please support MADD in calling upon Congress to developing a plan of action and support its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. This is chance to get involved and do all we can to stop this senseless tragedy that affects not only the victims who are killed or injured in the auto accident, but also their families and friends.

There are few organizations more directly opposed to the 4th amendment than MADD. Their agenda is for the police state to enforce prohibition. LINK
It's funny how MADD is now saying that drunk driving deaths are higher than ever before. I seem to recall that a few years back MADD was pushing for the BAC level to be lowered from .10 to .08. It had to be done, they said, because drunk driving deaths were at an all-time high. This was supposedly going to save so many lives. But now here we are in 2007 and we're getting the same old song and dance from MADD with their new magic bullet that they claim will eliminate drunk driving. This is a load of hooey and here's why. First, of the 1.4 million people arrested for drunk driving each year, the vast majority of them are first time offenders. And very, very few of them ever re-offend. Second, only 10% of the drivers involved in fatal accidents who had been drinking had a previous dui. That means that 90% of those accidents are caused by people with no prior conviction. So regardless whether or not MADD's plan goes through, it will have little, if any effect on the number of people driving drunk or the number of people killed by drunk drivers. It is once again, a placebo to make members of MADD feel that they have done something when they've done nothing. And it is a revenue generating scheme for the companies that create these devices. One has to wonder how much money MADD gets from these companies.Fact is, that in five or six years, MADD will be back asking that ALL cars are fitted with these alcohol ignition interlocks and everyone will have to pay the price of having one installed, kept up to date and have to deal with the hassles of using it while on the road, whether you drink or not. This is their true goal. So be careful what you ask for. You just might get it.Jeanne PruettPresident and CEOResponsibility In DUI Laws, Inc. LINK
To Jeanne Pruett,You must not have read the entire plan to eliminate drunk driving...Go to the website and read more... LINK It would be like airbags have been placed in cars... something along the same lines will eventually be in all cars thus eliminating the FIRST offense! What a GREAT plan... Thanks MADD... For all of the parents who have lost children and loved ones to drunk driving, this comes a little late, but for the future families who could avoid this needless and PREVENTABLE tragedy to begin with, it sounds like a wonderful plan.Do some research about the plan... I'm for it 100%.
I bet we could get all Americans to quit drinking and driving if we just installed police officers in all cars. MADD hates freedom. Freedom can have tragic consequences. Freedom is still worth it. Instead of treating all drivers like criminals why not focus on those who pose a threat to society? The loss of civil liberties is the real needless PREVENTABLE tragedy.
