6 Car Accident In Leesburg Causes Death

Comments Off

On U.S. Highway 27 in Leesburg motor vehicle accident involving six vehicles caused personal injuries and at least one fatality. The cause of the motor vehicle accident is still being investigated by the Leesburg Police Department. From what has been reported thus far it appears that an out of town police car was involved in the crash. That vehicle hit and ran over a woman causing her death. Apparently, she was also hit by another vehicle. The Lake County Medical Examiner also was at the scene working the car crash investigation. Hopefully the fact that a law enforcement vehicle was involved will not color the results of the investigation.

I say that because the Chief of the Florida Highway Patrol just resigned after investigators concluded that he had falsified a memo later used in a legal case involving the FHP. I have also personally seen a case where a law enforcement officer rear ended a vehicle and the investigating officer showed up and proceeded to falsely blame the vehicle that was hit for having a broken brake light. The brake light was not broken until it was smashed in the car crash which can easily be proved by an examination of the bulb filament. The point, however, is that law enforcement cannot always be trusted to file truthful auto accident reports and, apparently, the temptation to falsify documents extends all the way to the top of the Highway Patrol in Florida.
